Police say a pickup truck driver has been charged in the death of a man who was fatally struck in Mississauga early Friday morning.

Bruno Trimarchi, 47, of Mississauga was hit after getting out of a taxi at approximately 5:30 a.m. Friday, on Winston Churchill Boulevard at Castlebridge Drive.

He suffered “severe trauma” and was pronounced dead at the scene, Peel Regional Police said.

Rui Santos, 54, is charged with failure to remain causing death and criminal negligence causing death, according to police.

The door of the taxi was torn off in the collision and debris was scattered across the area.

Police had closed Winston Churchill Boulevard to traffic for their investigation, but it reopened by afternoon.
