A major commuter train line in Mississauga has reopened after a fatality caused a shutdown leading to widespread cancellations and delays.

A pedestrian was fatally struck between Port Credit and Clarkson stations on the Lakeshore West line in Mississauga, around 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, the transit authority said.

Approximately 30,000 commuters were affected by the closure on what is typically the transportation agency’s busiest day of the year., according to GO Transit.

Some people were stuck on the train, but as of 4 p.m. they had all been safely evacuated, said a GO representative.

The Lakeshore West line resumed service Wednesday evening “with speed restrictions,” the transit authority tweeted shortly after 5 p.m.

Delays were expected to continue into the evening.
