The IceDogs completed an epic comeback on Thursday night at the Jack, defeating the visiting Mississauga Steelheads by a score of 5-4 in a shootout! The comeback came after a wild third period that saw the IceDogs battle back from a 4-1 lead with just 7:30 remaining in regulation!

The first period would see Mississauga open the scoring with the frame’s lone goal at the 12:59 mark. Shots after one were 16-12 IceDogs.

A chippy second period would see the IceDogs come up with a huge five minute penalty kill, but Mississauga would score shortly after to extend their lead to 2-0. The IceDogs deficit would be stretched to three as Mississauga would score on the powerplay with 5:32 remaining in the period to make it 3-0 heading to the third. Shots after two were 28-26 IceDogs.

The IceDogs would get one back at 8:06 of the third as Eric Ming would get the ‘Dogs on the board with a powerplay marker to make it 3-1. Unfortunately for the IceDogs faithful, Mississauga would answer back just 1:38 later to make it 4-1. The IceDogs would be undetered however and Luke Mercer would fire one home with 7:30 remaining to get the IceDogs back within one at 4-2. Ming would keep things rolling just nine seconds later, scoring his second of the night to make it a 4-3 game. The IceDogs would keep things buzzing looking for the equalizer and with just 41 seconds Ming would complete the hat trick sending the hats flying and the IceDogs faithful into a frenzy! The score would remain 4-4 through the final seconds of regulation sending the game to overtime and giving each team a huge point. Shots after regulation 43-37 IceDogs.

Overtime would solve nothing as the teams headed to a shootout. In the shootout the IceDogs would fall behind after two rounds, but Billy Jenkins would score a big goal to keep the ‘Dogs alive and Blake Richard would make a stop to send things to extra rounds. Graham Knott would score in round four to give the IceDogs a chance to win it, but Mississauga would score to send it to a fifth round. In the fifth round, Mercer would make a great move to give the IceDogs the lead once again and this time around Richard would shut the door to make the IceDogs big 5-4 shootout winners!

The IceDogs will now hit the road tomorrow night to visit the Mississauga along with approximately 500 fans as part of the 10 buses of the 7th Man Convoy! The IceDogs will next return home Sunday afternoon when they play host to the Peterborough Petes in the final OHL regular season game in the history of the Jack.
