McDavid Tour Hits Mississauga; Steelheads Family Day Game a Sellout

February 14, 2015

February 13, 2015 – Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Mississauga Steelheads

MISSISSAUGA — The Mississauga Steelheads have announced that their Family Day game will be played in front of a sellout crowd.

Attendance has steadily increased in 2015; four of Mississauga’s last five crowds have eclipsed 3,500 fans. This season, the average attendance has risen from approximately 2,500 in 2014 to approximately 3,150 in the games played so far in 2015.

On Monday, the Erie Otters will play the role of visiting team for the Steelheads sellout game. Connor McDavid – absent on January 2 due to the 2015 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship – will face off against the Steelheads for the first time since November 11, 2014.

It is no coincidence that Mississauga’s most highly attended game features the Otters. Many teams around the OHL have experienced the “McDavid effect”, playing in front of crowds bolstered by the popularity of “the next big thing in hockey.”

Mississauga ‘s audience has been trending upward of late, and this sellout is another step in the right direction. It provides the organization with a unique opportunity on which they can capitalize.

Many who attend Monday’s game because of McDavid can finally realize for themselves the quality experience the Steelheads offer to fans at the Hershey Centre.

“It’s a great chance for us to welcome those who haven’t yet been to a game – to feel the environment, see all the in-game promotions, great prizing and all around fun that can be had at our games – and to watch great hockey right in their backyard,” said Scott Rogers, vice president of business operations.

For those looking to experience a Steelheads game but were unable to get hold of tickets to the Family Day Game, the Steelheads return to action Friday, February 20th at 7:30 PM at the Hershey Centre against Doug Gilmour’s Kingston Frontenacs.
