Morning Skate: Bulls Wrap up First Half of Season

December 20, 2014 – Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Belleville Bulls

BELLEVILLE, ON – The Belleville Bulls host the Mississauga Steelheads at the Yardmen Arena for the second time this season. The two teams have split the season series so far with each club winning on their home ice. The Steelheads have dropped their last two contests and are looking to rebound before heading back home to the Hershey Centre on Sunday night. The Bulls however, have won their last two games and are looking to close out the first half of the campaign on a high note. Puck drop is set for 7:05 pm.

Mississauga dropped their first of a triple-header weekend, falling 4-1 to the Ottawa 67’s on Friday night. Ottawa scored three unanswered goals before the final frame and didn’t look back handing Mississauga their 16th loss this season. Steelheads netminder Spencer Martin made 40 saves in the loss.

The Steelheads are led by 1995-born centre Bryson Cianfrone who has posted 5 goals and 27 assists in 31 games played thus far. Recently acquired, Winnipeg Jets prospect Jimmy Lodge has made an impact on his new team putting up 11 points in his first 9 games with Mississauga.

Martin, the Colorado Avalanche prospect has seen action in 29 games so far and owns a .918 save percentage.

The Bulls are coming off a down to the wire road win over the Peterborough Petes on Thursday night. Belleville jumped out to an early two-goal lead thanks to Brett Gustavsen and Niki Petti. The Petes stormed back in the third, tieing the game with just under four minutes to play. Forward Jake Marchment buried his 6th of the season at 17:20 to secure the win for the Bulls.

Dallas Stars prospect, Remi Elie continues to lead offensively for the Bulls with 12 goals and 20 assists in 31 games played. Defenceman Jordan Subban has pitched in with 13 markers and 15 helpers in 33 games played. Since his return to the ice on December 12th, Marchment has stepped up potting 3 goals and adding an assist.

Toronto, Ontario native Charlie Graham has been solid for the Bulls between the pipes playing in 27 games so far this season. Graham has recorded one shutout and has a .917 save percentage.

The Bulls are hoping two add another crucial two points before heading into a short holiday break.
