January 3, 2015 – National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada) Mississauga Power

(Brampton, ON – ) The highly anticipated Peel Rivalry had Brampton and Mississauga meet at the Powerade Centre for the Power’s first game of 2015. The year didn’t get the start that Mississauga had hoped as they experienced a heartbreaking 114-111 loss that extends their losing streak to six games. Travis Releford finished with a season high 37 points and 7 rebounds while Omar Strong added in 31 points with 7 three pointers.

The Power started off strongly by jumping to an 8-2 lead, holding the A’s scoreless for the first two minutes of the game. Their lead was short lived and the A’s took over the rest of the half, eventually leading the Power 27-22 after one quarter. Mississauga couldn’t combat Brampton’s post presence while the A’s scored 20 points in the paint to Mississauga’s two points. The Power fought harder under the basket in the third quarter and posted up for 12 points but were at the A’s mercy as Brampton took a 62-43 lead into half time.

The Power took the third quarter as their opportunity to make the game interesting as they went on a 20 point streak while shutting down Brampton’s offence to eight points. Omar Strong used his lethal three point shooting in the comeback to cut the A’s lead to five points making the score 85-80 to go into the fourth quarter. The Power relentlessly stuck around and came back again from a 10 point deficit to take their second lead of the game 108-106 with two minutes left in the game. Both teams exchanged one point leads four times before the A’s take the victory 114-111.

Mississauga’s next match up happens back at home at the Hershey Centre for part two of the Peel Rivalry as the A’s come to play on Jan. 6 at 7 p.m.
