January 22, 2015 – National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada) Mississauga Power

(Mississauga, ON -) Mississauga broke their 11 game drought with a huge 114-85 blowout win over the Halifax Rainmen. Peak Performer of the Game Warren Ward posted a double-double with 28 points and 11 rebounds in the crucial win. Travis Releford nearly missed a triple-double with 16 points, 10 assists and 9 rebounds. Tyrone Garland was also solid, adding 26 points in the win.

There was a different energy going through the Mississauga Power during warm up and it transitioned into a solid first quarter. Mississauga’s aggressiveness to the hoop was in full force with forward Travis Releford showing no fear in the paint to rack up five points. Guard Omar Strong heated up from the get-go with consecutive three’s to stay within arm’s reach from the Rainmen. From there Mississauga’s defence clicked with three defensive boards from Releford as the Power put their foot down to trail 23-24 in the quarter.

Guard Tyrone Garland was in full execution mode and ran the floor with a swagger. Mississauga was quick to take a 32-28 lead and eventually ran away with the quarter with a dominating 19-8 point run. Guard Warren Ward was the key behind the Power’s explosion and dropped 19 points including three long three’s in the frame. The Power’s bench did some immediate damage as well and outscored Halifax’s bench 19-12. The entire squad worked together to create frequent ball movement to make it a 59-42 ball game at the half.

By the midway point of the third quarter the Power led by 20 points. Forward Marcus Capers did what he does best and fired the Hershey Centre up with two hard drives to the bucket and before you knew it the Power rallied to an 82-52 edge over Halifax. Ward dropped another six points by the buzzer and the Power extended their lead 87-60.

Strong’s third and fourth three’s of the game sent the Power to the century mark, leaving the Rainmen behind at 66 points. Garland added another three along with a steal from guard Jordan Weidner. The Rainmen felt a lull in Mississauga’s rhythm and tried to claw their way back with a six point run. But the game fell into into place for Mississauga and the Power snubbed the Rainmen 114-85.

The Power will ride the win into a challenging matchup at home against the Windsor Express on Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. Catch the game live at the Hershey Centre or online at www.powerbasketball.ca
