Senior killed, two hurt in Mississauga collision

TORONTO –

A Mississauga senior is dead and his passenger is clinging to life following a “violent” two-car collision in a residential area Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency personnel were called to the intersection of Mississauga Rd. and Shawanaga Trail just after 4 p.m. for a crash that killed a 70-year-old male and has sent his female passenger of the same age to a Toronto hospital with life-threatening injuries, Peel Regional Police Const. Fiona Thivierge said.

An 18-year-old Mississauga man who was driving the other vehicle is in hospital with minor injuries.

The crash was so brutal, said Thivierge, that as of Wednesday evening it remained difficult for investigators to determine the direction the vehicles were travelling, as well as how fast they were going.

“It’s hard to tell,” she said of the incident that occurred just west of the Mississauga Rd. off-ramp from the QEW and close to an area known for its opulent houses and mansions.

“They both went off the roadway, the collision was so violent.”

Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to remove the roof of at least one of the vehicles.
