Steve Mahoney entered the Mississauga mayoral race on Monday to try to replace Hazel McCallion, who won’t be seeking re-election in October.

Mahoney, 66, is a former Mississauga councillor with political experience at both the provincial and federal levels. The businessman, whose wife Katie is Mississauga councillor for Ward 8, will officially launch his campaign in April.

March 17, 2014: Mahoney becomes the third mayoral candidate to register in Mississauga mayoral race.

Sept. 10, 2012-present: president and CEO of the Radiation Safety Institute of Canada.

2006-2012: appointed chair of Workplace Safety and Insurance Board of Ontario.

1997-2004: Liberal MP for Mississauga West; he served as a cabinet minister under then prime minister Jean Chretien.

1992: ran for leadership of the Ontario Liberal Party but withdrew on the second ballot and endorsed Lyn McLeod who won on the fifth ballot.

1987-1995: Liberal MPP for Mississauga West.

1978-1987: Mississauga Ward 8 councillor.
